We work with several home builders that specialize in building high efficiency structures. Depending on the builder, a home may be constructed using SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels) or ICF (Insulated Concrete) Forms or standard wood frame with spray foam insulation. Many of the homes are fully encapsulated, which means all walls and the entire attic are sealed inside a foam insulated shell. These types of high efficiency or “Green Built” homes offer many challenges to us because some are so well insulated; they almost break the rules for sizing air conditioning systems. If you are considering building a high efficiency home you should be very careful when choosing your air conditioning contractor. An improperly sized or poorly designed system can be very costly to repair. We have been designing and installing high efficiency air conditioning systems in these types of homes since 1999.
